AC Unit Repair Annandale, VA
Brief Explanation

A recent customer got into contact with us in regards to their AC unit giving them some troubles.

Upon receiving their call, we set up a personalized appointment for them that best fit their schedule and then went right to work.

Why's A Clean Evaporator Coil So Important?

Once we'd completed our initial diagnostic of the unit and had given it a proper look over, it became obviously apparent that the condensation build-up was affecting the unit's proper systems of operation.

Condensation buildup is fairly common in AC units, especially around the evaporator coil but if there's too much of it or if your system isn't correctly adjusted at the right levels, then it can clog up the unit.

This will then prevent it from working properly and even produce ideal conditions for mold buildup and distribution from within it.

Additionally, a dirty evaporator coil can lead to other various amounts of troubles such as excessive energy use, more dramatic temperatures and pressure buildup, improper heat absorption, and cooling capabilities, and the opportunity for frost and ice to build up.

After we cleaned out all the excess condensation buildup, we made sure that everything else was in its proper working order and returned the unit back to its ideal working order.

1. What Exactly Is An Evaporator Coil?

An air conditioner's evaporator coil, or sometimes referred to as the evaporator core, act as the main source of heat absorption within a unit.

It tends to be shaped in a capital A-formation so that air is able to flow and be cooled from either side of the 2 main panels.

The actual coils themselves allow for the liquid, compressed refrigerant to pass through the panels and are often made up of either steel, copper, or aluminum since these are able to conduct heat easily.

It's only one part of the whole HVAC system, but its still a very important one as well.

2. What's The Role Of An Evaporator Coil?

One of the main roles that an evaporator coil performs is the absorption of excess heat from the surrounding air within your home.

It's commonly thought that ACs produce their own cool air like a furnace produces its own heat, but this is actually not the case. Instead, it focuses on taking hot air out of the environment instead of adding cold air into it.

As cold refrigerant passes through the coils, it takes in the surrounding heat from the area, thus making the air of your home cooler.

During the colder months, this coil process is than reversed via a heat pump where instead of taking hot air out, it pumps it back in.
